Museum of Photographic Arts at Balboa Park

Working with clients conducting business as usual is a challenge we have faced many times and The Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) was no exception. This world- renowned San Diego cultural destination, located in the heart of historic Balboa Park, was open seven days a week. By collaborating closely with the MOPA staff, we were able to accomplish challenging design goals – all while museum traffic continued, including events and even the occasional wedding.

This high-density project encompassed reconfiguration of the lobby, store and gallery space. The newly designed museum store was transformed into an aesthetic showcase which included custom millwork and display cases. On the opposite side of the lobby a new high tech/interactive digital gallery wing was constructed. The main entry/lobby received a new portable modular reception desk with built-in touch features and a floor to ceiling visual display wall to showcase exhibits and presentations. The entire project received LED lighting, new terrazzo flooring and custom solid surface casework throughout.
