Originally designed in 1923 by Hermosa Beach local architect, Richard Douglas King, The Hermosa Beach Metropolitan Theatre has been a historical centerpiece in this Southern California town ever since.
When the theatre was redeveloped by Beach City Capital with their vision to convert it into a collaborative office, they needed a trusted construction partner who had extensive experience in maintaining the historical integrity and details of the building while upgrading the space to modern office standards.
Project scope included the demolition of existing finishes and subsequent build-out of a unique open office concept incorporating the original brick walls, stage, performance balconies, hand-crafted proscenium, and decorative plasterwork with complementary modern finishes. J&J upgraded existing HVAC systems as well as installed a new lighting package. New features included polished concrete for the hallways and restrooms, retrofitting the existing walls to incorporate new technologies, new offices with floor to ceiling glazed wall systems, and the addition of two new mezzanines to accommodate future office expansion.
